Glenda George
I am orrigionally from California, have lived about 20 years in Wilmington, North Carolina during two different stints and have retired in Floyd county with my husband.
I learned how to quilt in 1984 in Wilmington, and made a couple of bed quiltsand then had a long absence from making guilts as I got sidetracked from raising goats and sheep when we moved back to California. Cheese making and wool spinning took my time there as well.
After returning to Wilmington in 1994, I took up quilting again and very soon started making art quilts rather than bed quilts. I find them generally quicker to make, more challenging to create and only limited by my immagination.
I often use paint, stamping and other embellishments on my quilts and usually use my hand dyed fabric to make them.

< "Tempestuous Tea Party" (25"x36") Apliqued, stamped, hand dyed and hand painted fabrics. valued at: $350.00

Emily Williamson -

I am a 23 year old native Floyd County artist, with a special talent for portrature, and an affinity for landscape and nature. I discovered the power of my artwork in highschool, and continued to cultivate my talents with the help of the well loved Catherine Pauley, local artist Barbara Cupps, and other wonderful teachers.

I continued my art educarion at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, discovering the wonderful world of color, and new realms of creativity and expression. Another rather major discovery was how much I missed and was in love with my beautiful home in the mountains of South West Virginia. The torpor of the city will never hold a candle to the fresh air, colors, textures, and miraculous wonder of this land. I returned home after a year of school, and am happy to still be a part of the growing community of artists who reside here.

I spend alot of my time doing commissions of all different sorts, mostly portraiture. This is challenging and rewarding work, and always very special to the people who commission me to draw them. However, I would like to spend more time doing artwork that comes from my own heart, as the satisfaction is, I have to say much more.......satisfying to my artistic yearnings.

I work mostly in pastels for their ease and versatility, and richness of color. I also have a great love of watercolor and colored pencil. I hace done oil and acrylic painting, as well as a bit of sculpture. doll making, and costume design. I enjoy working from photos as they never seem to shift around on you. I have done quite a bit of live drawing and plein air landscape, and have done live portrait drawing for different events. I have also dabbled in the enormously fun and freeing art of caricture. I teamed up with a local "Santa Claus" a couple of years ago and illustrated a children's book called "The Christmas Chair", which was a wonderfully fun challenge which I'd like to do more of.

I take great pride on my versitality, which I believe serves me, and those who commission me well. My greatest artistic ambitions include writing and illustrating and illustrating a sucessful and widely published childrens book, and painting a beautiful mural of considerable size in a prominent loation. I hope that I will acheive these and many more goals in my lifetime.

I am currently displaying my work at Cafe' Del Sol in the town of Floyd, and am available for commissions.
