Floyd is many things to many people, and to most people one of those things is fun. There has seldom been a resident of Floyd who knew how to have as good a time as Tom Ryan did. Floyd’s first Mardi Gras King was also a visionary with a generous community spirit who helped put Floyd’s Mardi Gras on the map and supported Blue Mountain School in many other ways besides.
In this year’s Blue Mountain School FUNdraiser we pay tribute to this mountain of a human spirit in the way he would want us to: we’re going to have a great, big party!

Please join us on Saturday, February 9, 2013 from 6:30pm - 12:00am in the Celebration Hall at Floyd Eco Village. Tickets are $8 in advance from Republic of Floyd, Blue Mountain School and online and $10 at the door (if there are any left). For that small price, you'll get a huge party!
Music!
Our headline act, Lagniappe, includes a list of local luminaries, namely Kerry Hurley from the Fat Daddy Blues Band, the Blue Ridge Blues Society and 101.5 The Music Place’s Blues With A Feeling; Kris Hodges—the man behind FloydFest; The Kind’s Tom Snediker; and Dylan Locke—formerly of Yams From Out Of Space and now the Jefferson Center’s Artistic Director.
Opening for Lagniappe is another killer outfit playing together for the first time, Opening Act, featuring Janiah Allen (Alliens), John Hill (Materia Project), Cam McLaughlin (Alliens, Duality), "EZ" Eddie McClain (HopeHop) and Jamiel Allen (Alliens, Blue Ridge Dub Alliance). This will be one of the hottest debut performances southwest Virginia has ever seen, so don’t miss it.
And what would the evening be without Spoon Fight? These Blue Mountain School alumni have performed at every single Floyd Mardi Gras. If you haven’t seen them yet, why not?
Prizes!
As usual, Lagniappe is awarding prizes from the stage for costumes, dancing, and anything else they come up with! For the very first time, we’re giving away some awesome door prizes and Floyd's PFLAG will have prizes for best male and female cross-dresser and best Rainbow. Best of all, Oddfella’s Cantina & Tapas is awarding a prize for the best impersonation of Tom Ryan. Wear your best Hawaiian shirt and sunglasses!
Food and Drink
Oddfella’s Cantina & Tapas will be serving up eats, with plenty of New Orleans inspired cuisine. We'll have beer from Blue Mountain Brewery and wine from Republic of Floyd, and
Silent Auction
This year's auction once again features some of the finest goods and services Floyd and southwest Virginia have to offer. Check back here soon to see the list of items!
Lodging and Transportation
Don't want the Floyd experience to end at midnight? The Hotel Floyd has a special Mardi Gras package that includes a room, free shuttles to and from the show, two tickets to the show, and a free meal at the show—all for just $70!
If you'd rather enjoy yourself at the event and head on home safely, Helping Hand Transit is offering a 10% discount to anyone who books their rides in advance.
Kiddy Gras Pajama Party!
Let your kids party while you do! Just downstairs from the main event, children ages 3 to 12 can enjoy face painting, games, and plenty of fun activities or take a rest in a quiet room. The cost is $15 for the first child, $10 for second, and $5 for subsequent kids.
