Operations: Fruit
“The trees that are slow to grow, bear the best fruit.” - Moliere
At its inception Blue Mountain School consisted of volunteer parents and community members, seeking an alternative education for their children. Throughout the entire existence of Blue Mountain School operational spending has been focused on lean margins, conscious spending, and creative budgeting. Over the years salaries were established, systems put in place, and a governing Board elected. The growth has been slow, organic, intentional.
Each year the operating budget increases to meet demand. Supplies costs go up, contract services rise, utilities increase. We try to tackle these expenses head on, taking the time to plan accordingly so we can absorb the load.
The school has experienced unprecedented growth over the past four years, resulting in the highest enrollment ever, and much of this growth is attributable to the current roster of excellent teachers. Perhaps our most important and largest undertaking of the 2024/2025 school year is the implementation of the largest salary increase in the school’s 43 year history. This increase is a necessary acknowledgement of the incredible staff that guides and watches over the children at Blue Mountain every day.
After a school wide meeting in April 2024 that included families, teachers, administrators and Board Members, the decision to increase teachers’ pay by a minimum of twenty three percent for the upcoming school year found strong support.
In order to do so the Primary Program tuition for the 24/25 calendar year has increased.
By raising tuition we create an uncomfortable financial burden for several of our families.
Your contribution to the Matching Funds Campaign will see forty percent of your donation go towards our general operational costs allowing us to continue offering holistic education to our community’s children while building for the future.
Your donation will also help provide financial assistance to families who want to continue their extraordinary education at Blue Mountain School and contribute to the funds needed to pay our teachers a fair living wage. Teachers are the heart of our school, the families are our soul. We need them both for our school to bear fruit.
The primary goals for funds donated to help with the Operational expenses of Blue Mountain School in the coming years are:
