Early Learning
The Early Learning classroom provides a bridge between the safety and rhythm of the Early Childhood classroom and the increased possibilities for skill building that characterize the Elementary classroom. Imaginative play remains an important part of the Early Learning classroom, while students’ increased capacity for reflection and awareness of self and others brings new challenges.
Early Learning students are encouraged to use their increased capacity for attention and focus to investigate their interests and imaginings; “I wonder why…?” is a hallmark question for the children in this classroom. The work of Early Learning students is characterized by an expanded sense of self and the world at large and an enhanced ability to work as part of a group.
Students in this class begin and then continue to develop their awareness of numbers and letters as they become interested in learning to read and write and to practice foundational math skills.
